How modern print campaigns are becoming more eco-sustainable

20 Jul 2026

The latest industry data shows why marketing teams are taking a fresh look at how they promote their attraction, event or cultural venue.

Modern print campaigns are becoming significantly more eco-sustainable, and the gap is rapidly closing between printed material and the 'invisible' environmental footprint of digital campaigns.

This is shaping marketing strategies for organisations and companies that are looking to connect with audiences that slip through their digital net in today's overcrowded online spaces.

Recent industry figures and consumer behaviour show that:
- Around 75% of paper and card are now recycled after use in the UK.
- Forests across Europe are expanding by the equivalent of 1,500 football pitches a day.
- The paper industry uses around 60% renewable energy, with 93% of water cleaned and returned to the environment.

Meanwhile, digital channels carry their own hidden footprint: data centres and AI are projected to account for around 3% of global electricity usage by 2030!

The UN warns, 'On top of the carbon footprint, every unit of electricity used by data centres also carries a “water footprint” for cooling and energy production, and a “land footprint” associated with power generation and supply chains.'

Smart print campaigns: less paper, same impact

Here at Glide, we use smart routing for our vans to ensure fuel efficiency while restocking our network of leaflet displays throughout the South West and West Midlands.

We have also been working with our clients to advise on effective and budget-saving ways to design and produce their materials.

One simple change that some are making is moving from multi‑page brochures to single‑page leaflets. It's a straightforward way to reduce paper use and production impact, while still delivering strong results: triggering engagement, driving website visits and supporting sustainable marketing goals.

Read how this strategy saved one of our customers over £5000 in paper and print costs while maintaining their campaign coverage.

Thoughtful design matters too: audiences are 45% more likely to pick up a leaflet if they like its design, and 38% are more likely to keep it. Giving your message and your print a longer lifespan.
